The Knight Cross of the Iron Cross, in overall excellent condition: the silver trim to the German award, showing slight, age-related patination, the iron centre exhibiting craqueleur, and tiny rust specks in places.

Specific detail: Markings: ‘800’ silver stamp to upper edge of trim. ‘800’ silver stamp to loop. ‘65’ manufacturer’s stamp to loop.

Note: Instituted on 1st September 1939, the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to members of the German Army & Waffen-SS for continuous acts of extreme bravery and/or outstanding leadership.

Knights Cross conferred to the Luftwaffe were typically issued on a points system, based on the number of enemy aircraft destroyed, comparatively, in the German Navy, the decoration was generally conferred based on the amount (weight) of tonnage destroyed.

In excess of 6,000 awards of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross were conferred between 1939-1945. Today, the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross is considered one of the most iconic - and desirable, WW2 German decorations.
