Luftwaffe Identification Armband.

A Luftwaffe identification armband for sale. The  Luftwaffe armband made from  good quality yellow cotton, with the typical printed Luftwaffe eagle & swastika motif.

Condition report: Close to mint condition, free from moth or other damage.

Provenance: Ex-Col. Dodkins collection; originally purchased from the Dodkins sale, 1984.

Note: Luftwaffe Identification  armbands were carried by German aircraft crew, and were worn over their flying suit if they had been inadvertently  shot-down over German-held territory. There had been mistakes of 'friendly fire', when German troops had believed the crew members were enemy. The Luftwaffe Identification armband was introduced in 1938, initially with the so-called droopy tail design. In December 1944, another version  was made which had the designation 'DEUTSCHE LUFTWAFFE' printed underneath the eagle & swastika.
