Duke of Wellington Signature 1835.
A Duke of Wellington signature for sale. The ink signature on an addressed envelope with additional writing by The Duke, to a member of his family in Cork, Ireland. The envelope bears an excellent 1834 watermark. The 'FREEPOST' stamp, with date 5th february 1835,
Condition report: Envelope slightly cut-down in size. Signature clear.
Note: As a politician, Wellington was allowed to use 'Freepost,' which as the term implies, meant there was no charge incurred. to send- or receive mail: the sender, (in this instance The Duke of Wellington), was however obliged to sign any mail before its dispatch.
