Kriegsmarine Artillery Chronograph Watch By Ankra
Kriegsmarine artillery chronograph pocket watch for sale made by Ankra, with a silvered metal case with metal loop and crown. The white china dial with 1-12 hour digits with luminous finish. The dial with a subsidiary 60- second indicator at 18.00hrs, along with an upper subsidiary 30 minute register. The dial marked 'Ankra.' The hinged case-back bearing the Kriegsmarine eagle/swastika, 'M' designation, timepiece type, and serial number, 'Artl.10559.'
The outer case-back opens to reveal an inner-hinged protective lid, which exposes the movement when opened. The high-quality chronograph movement with fine gilted brass bridges and regulation.
Condition report: The case in very good overall condition with a nice polish present. The case-back with signs of rubbing to the eagle & swastika motif (the motif is however still clear: the rubbing possibly a failed attempt to remove the motif). The dial perfect with clear numbers. The plexi-glass in good clean condition free from any major scratches. The movement in excellent fresh condition.*
Provenance: The Kriegsmarine chronograph for sale has been in the Ulric of England collection, since the 1980s. This example is shown in German Military Timepieces of World War II, Volume 4 German Navy. See page 54 for photographs of the obverse, reverse, and movement.
Notes: Typically used by officers in charge of Coastal Artillery units. Scarce in today's market.
