The whole grouping sold in 2011 by the last surviving family member

 

Lt Col James Charles Gordon Carmichael RAMC. Medal group consisting of Carmichael’s military OBE, British War Medal, and Victor Medal with Oak Leaf. Additionally the grouping contains various ribbon bars and dog-tags.

Rev & British Army Chaplain, Ernest Tritton. Medal group consists of Tritton’s British War Medal, Victory Medal, and the Italian Armata Altipiani Medal. Additionally the grouping contains various ribbon bars.

Condition report: The medals generally uncleaned and in overall very good to excellent condition. The ribbon bars showing light use. The dog-tags clean.

Background to Carmichael: Carmichael was in charge of  the 29 Casualty Clearing Station (Advanced Field Hospital) on the Western Front. His Grandson, Iain Carmichael has written a book about his grandfather, and the activities of the CCS (published by Naval & Military Press in 2012). The history & medals of Tritton largely un-researched. Ian Carmichael states Tritton was the Vicar of Weybridge (Surrey) after the war.

Included in the sale: various copies of documents including medal entitlement. A letter from Iain Carmichael dated 2011 and detailing history known of Lt Col Carmichael and Rev Tritton. Various colour copies from Iain Carmichael’s archive showing Lt Col Carmichael and other military related ancestors.
