The Waterloo Gorget
The So-Called Waterloo Gorget was introduced for wear by officers in 1796, and worn extensively during the Penninsular War, and at the Battle Of Waterloo. Today, this gorget epitomises the British Officer at Waterloo.
Item description: 1796 universal pattern, officers gorget for sale. The gorget being typically worn during the Battle of Waterloo and/or during the Peninsular Wars. Fine stamped copper gorget, hand-engraved with Georgian crown over 'GR' cypher, with attendant laurel sprays, and mercuric gilt plating. The reverse to the gorget with typical brown anodised finish.
Condition report: This gorget survives in particularly excellent condition, with over 95% mercuric gilt plating remaining.
