Royal Flying Corps (RFC) medals for sale. The WWI, RFC medal group to Lieutenant John K.Smith, No. 46 Squadron. The seven, RFC medals, with associated paperwork-photocopies, include;

The WWI, RFC medals, mounted by Spink, London (circa 1950s). The reverse to the mount includes a woven, Spink-label.

Condition report: The medals in close to mint condition and with polished appearance. Ribbons excellent; possibly replaced by Spink when mounted.

Note: Lieutenant John Kenneth Smith served with the Lancashire Fusiliers before joining the Royal Flying Corps. He was assigned to No. 46 Squadron, and following his training, served as a pilot.

In November 1917, No. 46 Squadron were equipped with single-seat, Sopwith Camels, and immediately put-to- purpose in the Battle of Cambrai. Lieutenant Smith was wounded during this operation, possibly by ground fire.

After the end of the WWI, Lieutenant Smith was assigned to No. 60 Squadron on the North West Frontier (1921-1925). In 1925, upon returning to England, he was assigned to  No. 12 Squadron. Later that year, he returned to his old infantry regiment; Lieutenant Smith was promoted to Captain in 1930, and by 1948 had achieved the rank of Major.
