Royal Navy Deck Watch + Container By Golay & Sons.
A WW2, Royal Navy deck watch for sale with original container. The H.S.4, Observer quality watch made by Golay & Son, London. The black Bakelite external case with screw on front. With white plastic/ Bakelite rear mounting bearing the designation, 'STORES REF.H.S.527-3638.'
The front unscrews to reveal the H.S.4 deck watch mounted to the inside, within a rubberised protector. An opening at the top allows the winder stem to protrude. The deck watch with black finished front case frame, which allows movement of the black outer dial scale. The white china inner dial with black Roman numerals, 1-12.
To the dial centre, the number '971', and company name 'H.Golay & Son, Ltd, London.' The caseback with designation, 'H,' 'WD Arrow', and 'S.4.'
Caseback unscrews to reveal the gilted bridges to the movement and bimetallic balance with screw weights. Both the main case, and the caseback are impressed with the matching dial number '971.'
Condition report: Container in good to excellent condition. Small typical breakage to the Bakelite screw front (not seen from the front of the piece). The main black Bakelite container with white back plate in good order. The stores reference clear. The deck watch case in excellent condition, free from major scratches, or other damage. Glass in clean condition, and clear. Excellent dial (maker name faint, but legible).
Movement in clean condition and functioning. No warranty implied.
