Waterloo Medal for sale, Private Samuel Fieldhouse, 1st Kings Dragoon Guards.

The 1st Kings Dragoon Guards were heavily involved in the fighting at the Battle of Waterloo and distinguished themselves while fighting French Curassiers. After particularly intense fighting against the Curassiers, the Dragoon Guards, destroyed Napoleon's Grand Battery of artillery near La Haye Sainte: trapped by two regiments of French lancers, they made a desperate attempt to return to British lines.

The French lancers inflicted a heavy death toll on the remaining squadrons of the 1st Kings Dragoon Guards. They were also reputed for lancing and killing the wounded. Samuel Fieldhouse survived: 7 officers (including the Commanding Officer), 122 men and 269 horses were killed. 4 officers and 130 men were wounded.
